On Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at approximately 3:00 p.m., detectives from the Connecticut State Police - Statewide Narcotics Task Force (SNTF) East Office executed a search warrant in the area of 88 Hillyndale Road in the town of Storrs.
The success of this operation was as a result of the assistance received from the State Police - Emergency Services Unit (ESU), CSP & FBI Bomb Squads, Statewide Organized Crime Investigative Task Force (SOCITF), Eastern District Major Crime Squad (EDMCS), and the Mansfield Resident Trooper’s Office.
The subject of the aforementioned warrant was identified as Scott Barber (D.O.B: 05-25-1989). The warrant was for Barber, his vehicle and his residence in order to locate firearms, narcotics and other related items.
Members of the ESU team were able to execute the search warrant of the vehicle while Barber was returning to the residence. Shortly thereafter, members of the ESU and FBI Bomb Squads made soft entry into Barber’s residence due to prior intelligence that possible bomb making materials might be present in the home.
The subsequent search of the residence yielded the seizure of chemicals and precursors to produce energetic materials, two firearms (one of which located by Firearms Detection K-9 Darlene), two high capacity magazines, .223 rifle ammunition, shotgun ammunition, a ballistic vest, five marijuana plants in various stages of growth, and narcotics pills, amongst other items.
As a result of this operation, Barber who is a convicted felon, was arrested for firearms, explosives, and drug related charges and was issued a $500,000 surety bond. Barber is expected to appear before Rockville Superior Court on May 13, 2021
