State Police Captain Graduates from FBI National Academy

On December 11, 2025, Captain Katharine Coney of the Connecticut State Police graduated as a member of the 296th session of the FBI National Academy. The graduation took place at the National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 11 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies to attend. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive level positions. Nationally, fewer than one percent of law enforcement officers have the opportunity to attend this prestigious program.

The 296th session consisted of 254 law enforcement officers – men and women from 47 states and the District of Columbia. The class included members of law enforcement agencies from 24 countries, four military organizations, and two federal civilian organizations.

Captain Coney started her Connecticut State Police career with the 123rd Training Troop in 2013.  Upon her graduation from the CSP Training Academy, she was initially assigned as Patrol Trooper at Troop I-Bethany and later became the School Resource Officer for Platt Technical High School in Milford. She was appointed as the statewide D.A.R.E. Coordinator, teaching at the Training Academy, prior to being promoted to Sergeant and transferring to Troop H-Hartford. After her promotion to Lieutenant, she led the Traffic Services Unit and later the Selections Unit. Upon promotion to Captain, she was assigned to the Office of the Colonel and is currently Commanding Officer for Media Relations and the DESPP Wellness Unit. She earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Connecticut.

Congratulations, Captain Coney!
