State Police Arrest Groton Man Accused of Traveling at 146 MPH on I-395 in Putnam
On 10/07/2026, at approximately 9:06 p.m., a State Police Sergeant assigned to Troop D in Danielson was conducting proactive motor vehicle enforcement on I‑395 southbound in Putnam. During these efforts, the Sergeant observed a BMW M3 traveling at an excessive rate of speed in the area of Exit 46. Speed measurements conducted using a laser unit showed that the accused vehicle was traveling at approximately 147 MPH in a posted 65 MPH zone.
In response, the Sergeant entered the roadway from his stationary position and caught up to the accused vehicle, which was displaying a Connecticut registration plate. A motor vehicle stop was initiated, and the accused vehicle came to a stop in the area of Exit 43 in Danielson. The accused operator, positively identified as Orlando Perez, DOB 12/15/2006, of Groton, was taken into custody based upon the reckless operation observed.
Perez was subsequently transported to Troop D, where he was processed and charged with the following violation: C.G.S. 14‑222, Reckless Driving.
Perez was later released on a $1,000.00 non‑surety bond and is scheduled for arraignment at Danielson Superior Court on 10/21/2026.
