Bridgeport Man Accused of Displaying Firearm on Route 25 in Trumbull

On 07/29/2026, at approximately 8:46 a.m., Troop G Troopers were dispatched to the area of Route 15 Southbound near Exit 30 in Westport for a reported gun-waving incident. Troop G Dispatch received a call indicating that the operator of a minivan had allegedly pointed a handgun at the complainant, who was operating an SUV. No injuries were reported.

Troop G Dispatch personnel were able to contact the registered owner of the minivan by phone and instructed them to drive to the Fairfield Rest Area to meet with investigating Troopers.

Upon making contact, the minivan operator was separated from his vehicle in the interest of safety. Troopers then positively identified the minivan operator as Jeffrey Guerette, DOB 07/25/1982, of Bridgeport. During this investigation, Troopers conducted a search of the minivan and located a loaded 9mm handgun within a box inside of the vehicle, which was subsequently seized as evidence.

The operator of the SUV explained to Troopers that they were transporting three juveniles at the time of the alleged incident. According to the complainant, they had been traveling in the area of Route 8 and Route 25 northbound, when a minivan had allegedly cut off their vehicle in traffic and then began driving in an aggressive manner. The complainant explained that this caused them to fear for their safety and they attempted to create separation between the two vehicles. The complainant further explained that while traveling in the area of Exit 5 on Route 25, in Trumbull, they observed that the operator of the minivan was holding what they believed to be a handgun, and pointing it in their direction.

The complainant noted that the alleged incident had been captured by their vehicle's dash camera. Investigators then reviewed the corresponding footage, which corroborated the complainant’s account of the incident, and was seized as evidence.

Based upon the information obtained and observations made during the course of this investigation, Guerette was placed under arrest and transported to Troop G in Bridgeport.

Investigators also determined that Guerette possessed a valid CT Pistol Permit, which was seized during the course of this investigation.

The accused was processed and charged with the following violations of Connecticut statutes:

C.G.S. 53a-181, Breach of Peace in the Second Degree

C.G.S. 53a-61aa(a), Threatening in the First Degree by Displaying a Firearm

C.G.S. 14-222, Reckless Driving

C.G.S. 14-236, Failure to Maintain Lane

C.G.S. 14-12(a)*, Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle.

The accused was subsequently released on a $20,000 cash bond, and scheduled for arraignment at Bridgeport Superior Court, on 08/24/2026.
