Automatic Crash Alert Leads to Arrest Following Willington Collision

On 08/23/2026, at approximately 1:33 a.m., Troopers assigned to Troop C were dispatched to the area of 54 Trask Road in Willington, in response to an automatic crash detection notification.
Responding Troopers quickly located the scene of an apparent single-vehicle collision and located a damaged, unoccupied silver Ford Ranger. Troopers determined that the vehicle was registered to Quin W. Rogers, DOB 09/05/2002, of Willington.
In the interest of safety, a State Police K-9 was requested to assist in locating any vehicle occupants. Prior to the arrival of the K-9, Troopers began searching the surrounding area in an effort to locate the operator of the vehicle but were unsuccessful. Troop C Dispatch attempted to contact the phone number associated with the automatic crash detection notification, but without success.
While establishing a perimeter for the responding K-9, a Trooper approached a residence on Trask Road and observed two males sitting by a bonfire in the front yard. The Trooper approached the males and asked if either of them were the owner/operator of the Ford involved in the collision. One of the males responded that they were not associated with the vehicle or the collision. Upon speaking with the second male, the Trooper recognized that his physical appearance matched that of the vehicle owner’s Driver’s License photo. When asked about how his vehicle had become damaged and if he was injured, Rogers’ responses were evasive and he began to walk away from the Trooper. Rogers began walking towards a picnic table a short distance away, where the Trooper observed a crossbow and several arrows.
Recognizing the potential threat of physical injury or death, the Trooper quickly intercepted Rogers, who began to physically resist and declined to follow verbal directives. In response, the Trooper guided Rogers to the ground and secured him in handcuffs in the interest of safety. During interactions with Rogers, the Trooper detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Rogers’ person and observed other signs of possible impairment.
During the investigation, Troopers spoke with a nearby resident who explained that they had observed a male matching Rogers description inside of the visibly damaged Ford Ranger shortly before they saw responding Troopers arriving at the scene.
Troopers then traveled to Rogers’ residence and spoke with a witness, who indicated that Rogers had departed from the residence in the Ford Ranger, traveling alone, a short time before Troopers arrived to speak with them.
Based upon the information obtained and observations made during the course of this investigation, Rogers was placed under arrest and transported to Troop C in Tolland.
After arriving at the Troop, Rogers was asked to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and declined to do so. Rogers was also asked to provide a breath sample and again declined.
Rogers then was processed and charged with the following violations:
C.G.S. 53a-167a, Interfering with Officer
C.G.S. 14-227b, Failure to Take Sobriety Test
C.G.S. 14-224(b)(3), Evading Responsibility - Resulting in Property Damage
C.G.S. 14-236, Failure to Maintain Lane
Rogers was later released on a $2,500.00 cash/surety bond and is scheduled for arraignment at Rockville Superior Court, on 09/08/2026.
