On 08/19/2026, at approximately 2:06 a.m., Troopers assigned to Troop H in Hartford were dispatched to the area of the Exit #56 entrance ramp to I-84 eastbound in East Hartford in response to a wrong way driver notification.
As Troopers responded to the area, dispatch personnel advised them that the accused vehicle, a dark colored SUV, was last observed to be traveling eastbound on Route 2 westbound. A short time later, dispatch personnel provided another update indicating that that the SUV had corrected its direction of travel while on Route 2 west in the area of Exit #2D and was last seen exiting the highway at Exit #1A in East Hartford.
Troopers arriving in the area observed a dark-colored SUV, identified as a Toyota Highlander, traveling off of the Exit #1A ramp and turning onto Pitkin Street. Troopers followed the accused vehicle, initiated a motor vehicle stop, and continued their investigation at a nearby parking lot.
The operator of the Toyota was positively identified as Jimmy Willyan Hares Daza Olivas, DOB 03/03/2003, of Hartford. Troopers assisted the accused operator out of the vehicle and to the rear of his vehicle for the purposes of the investigation.
Daza Olivas indicated to Troopers that prior to operating his vehicle on the highway, he had been in the City of Hartford and that his intended destination was also located in Hartford. While speaking with Daza Olivas, investigators observed signs of possible impairment. When asked if he’d consumed alcoholic beverages prior to driving, Daza Olivas indicated that he had consumed two or more alcoholic beverages prior to driving. Based upon this information, Daza Olivas was asked and agreed to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which were not performed to standard.
Based upon the information obtained and observations made during this investigation, Daza Olivas was placed under arrest and transported to Troop H in Hartford, where he was processed without incident and charged with the following violations:
C.G.S. 14-227a, Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or Drugs
C.G.S. 14-237, Driving the Wrong Way on a Divided Highway
Daza Olivas was later released on a $500.00 non-surety bond and is scheduled for arraignment at Manchester Superior Court, on 09/11/2026.
