Troopers Find Commercial Vehicle More than 100,000 Pounds Overweight in Danbury

On 07/10/24 at approximately 7:00 AM, Troopers from the Traffic Services Unit were conducting commercial vehicle enforcement on I-84 in the Danbury area when an oversized load was seen bypassing the Danbury scale along I-84 eastbound by traveling the secondary roads in the area. A commercial motor vehicle stop was initiated, and on-scene investigation revealed that the CMV had numerous oversize load permit violations. Further investigation revealed that the carrier out of New York did not have a CT DOT oversize permit.  Using portable scales, the gross weight of the vehicle was found to be 183,300 pounds. This is 103,300 pounds over the allowed weight without a permit.  Additionally, 6 out of the 8 axles were not in compliance with the maximum allowed statute weight of 18,000 pounds per axle. Size violations were also found, to include over height, over length and over width without a permit. Fines were issued to the carrier in the amount of $39,101.00 and the CMV was taken out of service.
