Three Arrested Following Retail Theft Investigation in Jewett City

On Sunday, 05/25/25 at approximately 1:49 PM, personnel from Troop E- Montville were dispatched to the Walgreen's pharmacy in Jewett City for a reported shoplifting. Upon arrival, Troopers met with store staff who reported a male party had entered the store and packaged a large quantity of over-the-counter medications into gift bags. This individual then left the bags on the floor near the front entrance and exited the store. Shortly thereafter, another male entered the store, retrieved the bags and ran out. Exterior surveillance showed both males leaving in a black Toyota Corolla sedan bearing NY registration plates, and the estimated value of the stolen merchandise was believed to be in excess of $2,600.

A review of the surveillance positively identified the NY license plate on the vehicle. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle was observed in the parking lot of the Lisbon Landing shopping plaza, and Troopers made contact with the one occupant within the vehicle upon arrival. The lone occupant was later positively identified as Daniel Redd (DOB 06/24/2004), of Brooklyn, NY. Redd was detained on scene without incident, and was later determined to have been the second male to enter the Walgreen's and flee with the bags containing the stolen merchandise.

While Troopers were speaking with Redd, the initial male observed from Walgreen's surveillance and a female had exited the Lisbon Wal-Mart. As Troopers began to approach the pair, both began to walk away, disregarding lawful orders to stop. Additionally, the male party continued to reach into his pockets while Troopers were attempting to stop the pair and disobeyed commands to keep his hands in view. Both then engaged Troopers in a foot pursuit through the parking lot. The male was subsequently tased and arrested without further incident. The female was located shortly thereafter and was also arrested without further incident.

The male was positively identified as Daevantae Andrews (DOB 02/10/95), of Brooklyn, NY and was evaluated by EMS personnel on scene following the Taser deployment. The female was positively identified as Alexis Albert (DOB 01/22/98), also of Brooklyn, NY. Albert was determined to be the owner of the Corolla and provided Troopers with consent to search her vehicle. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of multiple gift bags containing over the counter medication, consistent with the merchandise stolen from the Jewett City Walgreen's. These items were subsequently seized as evidence in this investigation. It was also discovered that Andrews had an extraditable felony arrest warrant out of New Jersey for Failure to Appear.
