(MIDDLETOWN – January 3, 2024) – On Jan. 2, 2024, at approximately 10:20 p.m., Connecticut State Police at Troop C received a 911 call regarding a structure fire at 44 Quality Avenue in Somers.
Troopers arrived to find a fully-engulfed fire at a two-family home. Valient efforts by the Somers Fire Department were made to save the lives of those residing in the home.
Detectives from the CT State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit and the Eastern District Major Crime Squad were called to the scene and asked to begin an investigation on the cause and origin of the fire. At this time, the fire does not appear criminal in nature.
State Police and Somers Fire Department officials confirmed today that three juveniles were pronounced deceased at the fire scene and a fourth juvenile was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased there.. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death and work to identify the deceased individuals.
An adult was home with the juveniles at the time of the blaze and was able to escape. Three other individuals were injured, as well as one responding firefighter.
