State Police Lieutenant Graduates FBI National Academy

State Police Lieutenant Joseph Hayward was one of 255 law enforcement officers to graduate today from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
Internationally known for its academic excellence, the National Academy offers 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. To attend, participants must have proven records as professionals within their agencies. On average, these officers have 21 years of law enforcement experience and usually return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.
The 298th session of the National Academy consisted of men and women from 46 states and the District of Columbia. The class also included 29 international members of law enforcement agencies from 26 countries, five military organizations, and four federal civilian organizations.
Lt. Hayward started his State Police career with the 122nd Training Troop in 2012. Since then, he has been assigned as a Patrol Trooper at Troop C in Tolland, as an Ellington Resident Trooper, in the CARS Unit (Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad), and as a Mansfield Resident Trooper. Upon his promotion to sergeant, he served Troop C patrol. After being promoted to Lieutenant, he was Chief of Staff in the Office of Professional Standards & Training. He is currently assigned as Commanding Officer at Troop C. In addition, he has served 22 years in the Connecticut Air National Guard, now a Captain and serving as the Commander of the Civil Engineer Squadron at Bradley ANGB. Lt. Hayward earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and a Master’s degree in criminal justice from American Military University.
