Stamford Man Arrested for DUI, Reckless Driving Following Traffic Stop on I-95 in Darien

On Thursday, 06/26/25, at approximately 10:28 pm, a Trooper assigned to Troop G- Bridgeport was patrolling I-95 south in the area of exit 14 in Darien. It was at this time that the Trooper observed a vehicle approaching from behind at an extremely high rate of speed, which ultimately passed their cruiser. The vehicle was determined to be an Acura TL sedan, and the Trooper subsequently initiated a speedometer clock on the vehicle. The Trooper observed the vehicle to be traveling at 100 mph in a posted 55 mph zone and activated their lights and siren to affect a traffic stop.

The vehicle initially accelerated before slowing to a stop, at which point speeds were observed between 100-111 mph. Once safely stopped by exit 13, the Trooper ascertained that the vehicle's registration was cancelled and its insurance status was unconfirmed. The operator was positively identified as Delroy Williams (DOB 12/13/75), of Stamford. It was also determined that Williams did not possess a valid driver's license. While speaking with Williams, the distinct odor of burnt marijuana was detected emanating from within the vehicle. Williams also displayed clear signs of impairment, to include watery, bloodshot eyes, slow speech and the odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from his person. Williams admitted to using marijuana prior to driving, and he was asked to submit to Standardized Field Sobriety Testing.

Williams agreed to submit to testing and subsequently failed. Williams was arrested without incident and transported to Troop G, where he was processed on the following charges:

CGS 14-12(a)*; Operating/Parking an Unregistered Motor Vehicle

CGS 14-213b; Illegal Operation of a Motor Vehicle Without Minimum Insurance

CGS 14-222; Reckless Driving

CGS 14-227a; Illegal Operation of a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs

CGS 14-36(a); Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a License

Chemical testing later conducted at Troop G revealed that Williams' blood alcohol content was in excess of the legal limit. Williams was later released from custody on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Stamford Superior Court on 07/17/25. Please see the attached criminal information summary.
