The Connecticut State Police proudly announce the successful completion of the Safe Storage Initiative – CT Program, designed to enhance firearm safety and secure storage statewide. On Wednesday, 08/13/25 at approximately 3:30 PM, the final handgun safe was issued at CSP Headquarters, marking the conclusion of this important initiative.
Over the course of 31 business days, the program distributed a total of 1,500 handgun safes, averaging 48 safes issued daily. Approximately 90% consisted of new pistol permits issued from CSP Headquarters, with the remaining 10% being from the satellite permitting locations at Troop E & Troop G.
The overwhelming positive response from new pistol permit recipients highlights the community’s commitment to responsible firearm ownership and continued education on firearms safety. We extend our sincere thanks to our media partners for their invaluable support in promoting this program.
The Connecticut State Police remain dedicated to advancing public safety through ongoing education and community engagement, and future grant opportunities will be explored to continue this program. For more information about safe firearm storage, please see the program pamphlet attached below.
