New Haven Man Arrested for OUI, Wrong Way Driving on RT 15 in New Haven

On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at approximately 12:20 AM, Troop I - Bethany received numerous "911" calls about a wrong way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes on Route 15, in the city of New Haven.
Troopers located the vehicle stopped in the right shoulder, on the Exit 59 entrance ramp to Route 15 northbound. The operator was positively identified as Juan Escalante (DOB 03/12/1998) of New Haven. Escalante's eyes were watery and bloodshot, and the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanated from Escalante's breath.
Based on Troopers suspicion that Escalante was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, which Escalante did not perform to standard. Further investigation on scene revealed that Escalante did not have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle.
Escalante was placed under arrest and transported to Troop I for processing where he was charged with the following:
C.G.S 14-237 - Driving the Wrong Way on a Limited Access Highway
C.G.S. 14-227a - Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs
C.G.S. 53a-64 - Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree
C.G.S. 14-36(a) - Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a License
Subsequent chemical breath testing revealed Escalante's blood alcohol content was in excess of three times the legal limit.
Escalante was issued a $10,000 bond which he was unable to post. Escalante was then transported to the New Haven Correctional Center awaiting arraignment at New Haven Superior Court on 05/20/2025.
