Manchester Resident Arrested for OUI After Striking State Police Cruiser on I-84 in Manchester

On Monday November 25, 2025, at approximately 4:58 PM, Troopers from Troop H - Hartford responded to a motor vehicle crash on the I-84 Westbound Exit 59 ramp to I-384 Eastbound in the City of Manchester.
While Troopers were on scene investigating the crash, the accused, Eric Essuman (DOB 12/11/1971) of Manchester, was operating his vehicle and approaching the initial collision scene.
Essuman's vehicle crossed into the right shoulder and stuck a State Police cruiser from behind. Essuman reported no injuries, and the Trooper sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The Trooper has since been released from the hospital.
While on scene, Essuman showed signs of impairment and was requested to perform the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests which he did not perform to standard. Essuman was placed under arrest and transported to Troop H for processing where he was charged with the following:
C.G.S. 14-227a - Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or Drugs
C.G.S. 14-236 - Failure to Maintain Lane
C.G.S. 14-240(b* - Following Too Closely Resulting in a Collision
C.G.S. 14-283b(c) - Failure to Slow Down / Move Over
Essuman was later released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Manchester Superior Court on 12/16/25.
