Hartford Woman Arrested for DUI; Wrong Way Driver on I-91 in Rocky Hill

On Saturday, 05/03/25, at approximately 3:23 AM, Troop H- Hartford began receiving 911 calls reporting a grey sedan traveling in the wrong direction, northbound in the southbound lanes of I-91 in Rocky Hill. Shortly thereafter, responding Troopers located the vehicle traveling between the right lane and right shoulder at a slow speed, facing in the correct direction.
Troopers made contact with the operator, who was identified as Njinga Ward (DOB 12/11/75) by her CT operator's license. While speaking with Ward, Troopers observed clear signs of impairment, to include red glossy eyes, slurred speech and the distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her person.
Based upon the circumstances, Ward was requested to submit to Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. Ward agreed to submit to testing and subsequently failed. Ward was arrested and transported to Troop H, where she was processed on the following charges:
CGS 14-222; Reckless Driving
CGS 14-227a; Illegal Operation of a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs
CGS 14-236; Failure to Maintain Proper Lane- Limited Access Highway
CGS 14-237; Driving the Wrong Way on a Divided Highway
CGS 14-238; Improper Entry/Exit of Limited Access Highway
CGS 29-17; Failure to Comply with Fingerprinting Requirements
CGS 53a-63; Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree
Ward was later released from custody on a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at New Britain Superior Court on 05/05/25. Please see the attached criminal information summary.
