On Sunday, 06/22/25, at approximately 4:17 am, Troop C- Tolland received multiple 911 calls reporting a wrong way driver on I-84 in the town of Willington. The wrong way vehicle was reportedly traveling west in the eastbound lanes, and the calls placed the vehicle in the vicinity of the Willington rest area near the Tolland town line.
Responding Troopers located the vehicle shortly thereafter, which was stopped in the center median near exit 69 in Tolland facing the wrong way. Troopers made contact with the operator, who was positively identified as David Alvarado (DOB 03/05/96), of Vernon. Upon speaking with Alvarado, Troopers observed that Alvarado was exhibiting signs of impairment, to include the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from within the vehicle.
Alvarado was requested to submit to Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, to which he agreed. Alvarado subsequently failed to perform SFST's to standard and was arrested without incident. Alvarado was transported to Troop C, where he was processed on the following charges:
CGS 14-227a; Illegal Operation of a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs
CGS 14-237; Driving the Wrong Way on a Divided Highway
CGS 53a-64; Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree
Alvarado was later released from custody on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Rockville Superior Court on 07/02/25. Please see the attached criminal information summary.
