UPDATE: Shooting Victims Identified in Hartford I-84 Incident

On Friday August 11, 2023, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Troopers from Troop H responded to reports of a crash on I-84 East in the area of Exit 48 in Hartford. Investigating troopers determined that two vehicles traveling in the city of Hartford had entered onto the highway and that shots had been fired. Two additional vehicles were involved in a collision. Responding troopers located two occupants of a vehicle who had sustained apparent gunshot wounds. The other vehicle involved in the shooting fled the scene.

Omar Cruz-Torres (DOB 9/17/86), of West Haven, was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Next of kin has been notified.

Nelson Alejandro-Capo (DOB 7/16/88), of East Hartford was seriously injured and transported to an area hospital.

The CSP Central District Major Crime Squad responded to the scene and are investigating in conjunction with the Harford Police Department as it is believed this collision is connected to a shooting reported in Hartford.
