Two Arrested for Home Invasion; Assault Following Active Burglary in Washington

On Saturday, 07/12/25 at approximately 2:00 PM, personnel from Troop L- Litchfield were dispatched to a residence in Washington for a disturbance involving forced entry to the residence as well as a physical assault.


Upon arrival on scene, Troopers and Officers met with the victim who had visible injuries to his face. The victim reported that he was inside his residence when two individuals broke in and an altercation ensued. The victim reported that he was strangled with a dog leash on the floor by one man while being kicked in the face by the other. The victim reported that he curled up on the floor hoping that his lack of resistance would make them stop. The victim reported that both men fled the scene, however, knew who they were. The victim reported that one of the men was related to him, and the other was a friend of his relative. The victim was subsequently transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.


Further information was developed during the course of the investigation pertaining to the whereabouts of the aggressors, which led Troopers and Officers to a separate residence in Washington. Upon arrival, Huckleberry Durkin (DOB 07/11/99), of Thomaston, was located. Durkin admitted his involvement in the incident and explained that he and his friend had gone to confront the victim over a previous verbal altercation. Durkin was arrested without incident.


Austin Dutcher (DOB 07/07/99), of Washington, was located shortly thereafter. Dutcher also admitted his involvement in their plan to confront the victim about a previous altercation. Dutcher was also arrested without incident.


Both men were transported and processed on the following charges:


CGS 53a-100aa; Home Invasion


CGS 53a-101; Burglary 1st Degree


CGS 53a-60; Assault 2nd Degree


CGS 53a-62(a(1; Threatening 2nd Degree


CGS 53a-64aa; Strangulation/Suffocation 1st Degree


Both men were released from custody on a $250,000 bond and were scheduled to appear at Torrington Superior Court on 07/14/25. Please see the attached criminal information summary.
