(MIDDLETOWN, CT – December 30, 2024) – New Year’s Eve celebrations commence on Tuesday and Connecticut State Troopers are preparing to patrol the roadways, working to keep both drivers and passengers safe as many take to routes around the state.
On the brink of 2025, State Police remind all operators to ditch the distractions, focus on driving safely, and plan travel with safety in mind. Traffic is consistently heavy during the final days of every year and the farewell to 2024 will likely be no different.
Troopers ask those traveling over the next few days to drive the speed limit, buckle up, use signals when turning or changing lanes and avoid distractions – all to keep passengers, operators, and other drivers safe on Connecticut roads. Anyone planning to operate a vehicle should never consume alcoholic beverages or drugs that diminish one’s driving abilities (including those legally prescribed) before getting behind the wheel.
“As always, our priority will be to keep everyone in Connecticut safe. Please be our partners by following traffic laws and keeping highways clear of hazards,” said Colonel Daniel Loughman, commanding officer of the Connecticut State Police. “We count on members of the public to ensure that their vehicles are maintained and safe for road trips prior to leaving home and to be mindful of weather and traffic conditions, as both can change quickly in Connecticut.”
“We ask all drivers to celebrate responsibly by planning ahead for a safe and sober ride following the start of the new year. Let’s work together to ring in a safe 2025,” Colonel Loughman added.
