On November 12, 2025, Troopers from Troop H - Hartford observed a silver Nissan Altima driving southbound on I-91 prior to Exit 27. The vehicle was observed operating erratically, at slow speeds, and a registration inquiry indicated that the registration plate was misused and canceled.
Troopers initiated a traffic stop on the exit 27 off ramp, and while walking up to the window of the vehicle, it took off at a high rate of speed, eluding the traffic stop. The State Police Aviation Unit was in the area at the time observed the vehicle flee from the traffic stop. The Aviation Unit tracked and followed the vehicle through the City of Hartford and notified Troopers of its updated location.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop and parked at the rear of a residence on Laurel Street in the City of Hartford. Troopers quickly converged on the vehicle, and successfully boxed the vehicle in. The operator then fled the vehicle on foot in an attempt to elude Troopers again. The operator was again followed by the Aviation Unit and pursued by Troopers on foot. The operator was then located and taken into custody without further incident.
The operator was identified as Assawni Hoilett (DOB 12/23/1996) of Hartford. Hoilett showed signs of impairment in his speech and actions, and he admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages and smoking marijuana prior to operating the motor vehicle. Hoilett was requested to perform the SFST's, which he did not perform to standard.
Hoilett was transported to Troop H for processing where he was charged with numerous motor vehicle and criminal charges.
Hoilett was processed and held on a $50,000 bond which he was unable to post. Hoilett was later transferred to the Department of Corrections, awaiting a court date of 11/13/2025 at Hartford Superior Court.
