Stamford Man Arrested for Reckless Driving; Engaging Police in Pursuit on I-84 in Vernon

On Thursday, 09/04/25 at approximately 8:11 PM, Troop C- Tolland was advised by the Massachusetts State Police that a black Nissan Frontier pickup had engaged Troopers in pursuit on I-84 westbound. MSP further advised Troop C that the Frontier had entered Connecticut on I-84 westbound and their Troopers had disengaged pursuing the vehicle.

Shortly after the vehicle entered Connecticut, Troop C began receiving 911 calls reporting erratic operation on the same vehicle. Troop C personnel took posts along I-84 westbound in Tolland, and a Trooper spotted the vehicle traveling below the posted speed limit while failing to maintain its lane between exits 69 and 68. The Trooper activated their emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop, at which point the operator accelerated to speeds exceeding 90 mph. The Trooper subsequently disengaged pursuit efforts and deactivated their emergency lights and siren. Another Trooper following from a distance subsequently observed the vehicle return to normal traffic speeds following this, and more units were stationed further west on I-84 in Vernon.

Upon approaching the area of exit 65 in Vernon, a Trooper positioned in the left shoulder successfully deployed stop sticks on the vehicle, deflating the vehicle's tires. As the vehicle began to reduce speed, Troopers boxed in the vehicle within the high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane. The operator then collided with the concrete jersey barrier, continued on and attempted to escape the box in by driving into the grass center median. Troopers surrounded the vehicle, and the operator then came to a complete stop. No injuries were reported, and the operator surrendered to Troopers without further incident.

The operator was positively identified as Jeffrey Lauture (DOB 10/06/1985), of Stamford. A search of Lauture's vehicle incident to arrest led to the discovery of a loaded handgun with a high-capacity magazine. The weapon along with its ammunition was subsequently seized as evidence.
