On Monday, September 19, 2022, at approximately 2:31 AM, Troop G - Bridgeport received multiple reports of a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on I-95 Northbound, north of Exit #8, in Stamford. The initial investigation revealed that Vehicle #1, a 2023 Isuzu box truck displaying an Indiana registration plate, operated by Michael Smith, (DOB 03/18/1971) of Woodbridge, VA, was traveling northbound on I-95 in the center of three travel lanes. Vehicle #2, a 2007 Suzuki GSX-R750 motorcycle, bearing a Connecticut registration plate, operated by Jose Coreas Ortiz (DOB 03/01/1999) of Norwalk, CT, was traveling behind Vehicle #1. Vehicle #2 struck the rear of Vehicle #1, resulting in Operator #2 being separated from Vehicle #2. Operator #2, positioned in the center lane following his separation from Vehicle #2, was then struck by Vehicle #3, a 2020 Freightliner tractor trailer displaying an Indiana registration (towing a trailer), operated by Abraham Fofana (DOB 05/17/1995) of Philadelphia, PA. Operator #2, Jose Coreas Ortiz, was pronounced deceased on scene. Operator #2’s next of kin have been notified. No other injuries were reported. I-95 Northbound was closed for approximately five hours for the investigation. The CSP C.A.R.S Unit (accident reconstruction), CT DOT and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) responded to the scene to assist. The facts and circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation and this is all of the information available for release at this time.
