Guilford Man Arrested for OUI, Reckless Driving, on I-395 in Montville

On 08/02/2026, at approximately 2:12 a.m., an on-duty Trooper was conducting traffic enforcement on I-395 between Exits 2 and 5, in Waterford when he observed a vehicle traveling northbound at a high rate of speed. The Trooper attempted to catch up with the vehicle; the Trooper determined that the accused vehicle was traveling at speeds of up to 100 MPH in a posted 65 MPH zone, only reducing its speed as it negotiated a curve at the Exit 5 ramp.

The Trooper observed that the vehicle repeatedly drifted to the left, and its left tires drove onto the painted solid yellow at multiple times as in continued traveling.

Based upon these observations, the Trooper initiated a motor vehicle stop.  The accused vehicle, came to a stop within the right shoulder of the roadway, between the Exit 6 entrance and exit ramps and the Trooper observed two unsecured passengers within the trunk/cargo compartment of the vehicle, along with two additional unsecured passengers sitting between two secured passengers in the second row of seating.

Upon approaching the male operator, the Trooper observed signs of possible impairment and asked him to exit the vehicle for the purposes of this investigation. The operator, identified as Isaak Berkun, DOB 02/17/2005, of Guilford, was asked and agreed to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which were not performed to standard.

Based upon the information obtained and observations made during the course of this investigation, Isaak Berkun was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop E in Montville, where he was processed and charged with the following violations:

C.G.S. 14-222, Reckless Driving

C.G.S. 14-227a, Operating Under the Influence

C.G.S. 14-236, Failure to Maintain Lane

Additionally, infractions were issued to the four unsecured adult passengers in the vehicle for violations of C.G.S. 14-100a(c)(1), Failure to Wear a Seatbelt.

Berkun was processed without incident, released on a $500.00 non-surety bond, and is scheduled for arraignment at Norwich Superior Court, on 08/11/2026.
