Danbury Man Arrested for Reckless Driving; Failure to Slow Down/Move Over Following Traffic Stop on I-84 in Danbury

On Monday, 08/11/25 at approximately 8:30 PM, a Trooper assigned to Troop A- Southbury was patrolling I-84 west in Danbury in the left lane. It was at this time that the Trooper observed a black Mitsubishi sedan traveling at an extremely high rate of speed in the right lane pass their location. The Trooper also observed that the operator of the Mitsubishi sedan failed to slow down and move over for a tow truck stopped in the right shoulder, nearly striking the tow operator who was outside of their vehicle at the time.

Based upon these observations, the Trooper accelerated to catch up to the observed vehicle. Upon catching up to the observed vehicle, the Trooper activated their emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop. The operator complied and pulled over to the right shoulder just prior to exit 5 in Danbury.

Once safely stopped, the Trooper made contact with the operator who was positively identified as Hunter Leili (DOB 09/27/94), of Danbury. Leili explained to the Trooper on scene that he was traveling between 110-120 mph, knew it was not smart to be driving that fast and apologized for doing so. It was further determined during the investigation that Leili had failed to renew his vehicle registration.

Leili was arrested without incident and transported to Troop A, where he was processed on the following charges:

CGS 14-12(a); Failure to Renew Registration

CGS 14-222; Reckless Driving

CGS 14-283b(c); Failure to Slow Down/Move Over- Non Emergency Vehicle

Leili was later released from custody on a $1,500 bond and is scheduled to appear at Danbury Superior Court on 08/26/25. Please see the attached criminal information summary.
