Connecticut State Police investigates large scale illegal gambling and cockfighting event in Tolland, CT.

On 5/16/26 at 1:29pm, the Connecticut State Police Bureau of Special Investigations executed a search and seizure warrant at 55 Mountain Spring Road in Tolland, CT. This search warrant was the result of a lengthy investigation conducted by the Connecticut State Police into illegal gambling and cockfighting events being hosted inside this residence.



As a result of the search warrant execution, the Connecticut State Police made 100 in-custody arrests. Investigators seized approximately $90,000 in U.S. currency. The Connecticut Department of Agriculture located 273 birds on the property of 55 Mountain Spring Rd. All 273 birds were euthanized due their deteriorated conditions.


The homeowners of 55 Mountain Spring Rd were arrested on scene and identified as Elvin Miranda (DOB 06/27/1966) and Lisa Miranda (DOB 02/01/1960). Lisa and Elvin Miranda were taken into custody and transported to Troop C where they were processed and charged with violations of C.G.S 53-247 Cruelty to Animals, C.G.S. 53-278b Professional Gambling, C.G.S. 53-278e Operating a Gambling Premise, 53-21 Risk of Injury to a Minor and later released after posting a $250,000 cash/surety bond with a court date of 06/18/2026 at GA-19 Rockville Superior Court.
