On Tuesday, 08/05/25 at approximately 5:15 am, personnel from Troop D- Danielson responded to a residence on Willimantic Rd in Chaplin for a reported disturbance involving a break-in. The resident called 911 and reported that Travis Stimson (DOB 10/11/74), of Canterbury, had forced entry through her back door and started a verbal argument with a friend who was staying with her. It was also reported that Stimson had left once the reporting party told him she was calling the police.
Upon arrival, Troopers spoke with both parties on scene. It was learned at this time that the confrontation was verbal only in nature and no injuries were reported. The witness explained that Stimson was known to her as he had stayed at the residence in the past. The witness explained that Stimson had broken her back door on a prior occasion, however she did not report it at the time. The witness explained that she had not yet repaired the back door, and it was being held shut only by screws. The witness explained that Stimson forced his way through the already damaged door and went upstairs. The witness explained that she found Stimson arguing with her friend and told him to leave, however he only left once she called the police. The witness further explained that she had told Stimson previously that he was no longer welcome at the residence.
Both the witness and victim explained that they were not certain where Stimson went after he left the residence but last saw him leaving on foot. A physical description was provided, and multiple K9 teams responded to the area. DEEP Officers and personnel from Troop C and Troop K also responded to assist, and a perimeter was set up in the surrounding area based upon established leads from the K9 tracks.
It was determined during the course of the investigation that Stimson also had an active arrest warrant held by Troop D, which stemmed from an incident on 06/16/25 at a Chaplin business. On 06/16/25, Troopers had responded for an individual who was reportedly unconscious inside a vehicle in the parking lot, with their foot on the brake and the vehicle in drive. The party left prior to Troopers arriving on scene; however, witnesses described the male party moving the vehicle behind a neighboring building and fleeing on foot upon learning of the police response. The vehicle was discovered abandoned, and it was determined to have been uninsured with drug paraphernalia in plain view. Stimson was identified as the vehicle operator from this incident, and it was also determined that his license was suspended. An arrest warrant was approved by Danielson Superior Court.
At approximately 9:36 am, a witness reported seeing an individual matching Stimson's description on North Windham Rd in Windham. At approximately 9:46 am, Troopers located Stimson in the backyard of a residence on North Windham Rd, and he was arrested without incident.
Stimson was subsequently transported to Troop D, where he was processed on the following charges:
CGS 53a-103; Burglary 3rd Degree
CGS 53a-117; Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree
CGS 53a-167a; Interfering with an Officer/Resisting
CGS 53a-182; Disorderly Conduct
Stimson was also processed on the following charges pursuant to the active arrest warrant:
CGS 14-213b; Illegal Operation of a Motor Vehicle Without Minimum Insurance
CGS 14-215; Illegal Operation of a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
CGS 21a-267(a); Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
CGS 53a-167a; Interfering with an Officer/Resisting
Stimson was held on a cumulative $75,000 bond and later transported to Danielson Superior Court for same day arraignment. Please see the attached criminal information summaries.
