Troopers Make Arrest in Facsimile Weapon Incident on I-91 in Cromwell

On Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at approximately 10:04 AM, Troop H – Hartford received a 911 call from a motorist traveling on I-91 northbound, in the town of Cromwell, reporting that another motorist had shot orange pellets at them while driving. The caller described the suspect vehicle as a gray Toyota Prius and was able to provide 911 operators with a license plate.

The caller advised responding Troopers that they had been struck in the face several times by orange pellets, but had not been injured. The caller also provided a physical description of the individual allegedly operating the Prius.

An Officer from the CT Department of Motor Vehicles, located a gray Toyota Prius, matching the description provided by the caller, traveling on I-91 northbound, in the Hartford area. A traffic stop was initiated on the Toyota and it pulled over into the right shoulder of the roadway. The DMV Officer briefly detained the Prius operator until State Police arrived at the scene.

A facsimile weapon, in plain view, was observed resting on the front passenger seat of the Prius. The operator of the Toyota Prius was positively identified as Kendrick Amaker (DOB 04/22/1991), of North Haven, CT.

After a brief investigation, Amaker was taken into custody and transported to Troop H, where he was processed and charged with the following:

C.G.S. 53a-63 Reckless Endangerment

C.G.S. 53a-61(a)(3) Assault 3rd

C.G.S. 53-181 Breach of Peace

C.G.S. 14-213b Illegal Operation of Motor Vehicle Without Minimum Insurance

C.G.S. 14-12(a)* Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle

C.G.S. 14-147(c) Improper Use Registration

Amaker was released on a $5,000.00 bond and is scheduled to appear at Middletown Superior Court, on August 22, 2022.
