Troopers Discover Firearm During Crash Investigation, Burlington Man Arrested
On Sunday, 12/11/2022, at approximately 5:13 AM, Troopers from Troop L in Litchfield responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision in the area of RT 4 (Spielman Hwy) and Lyon Rd. in the Town of Burlington. Responding troopers observed property damage in the area and located a Ford pickup truck with visible damage off the roadway, positioned up against a tree. While checking the interior of the unoccupied vehicle, troopers observed a handgun in plain view within the passenger compartment. The handgun was secured and later processed as evidence. During the investigation, it was learned that the Ford pickup was registered to George Lamoreaux, DOB 07/01/1997, of Burlington. A short time later, troopers located Lamoreaux at his residence, approximately a quarter mile away from the scene of the collision. Lamoreaux was identified as the operator of the truck at the time of the collision and reported no injuries. Lamoreaux also acknowledged that he was aware of the handgun was inside of his vehicle. Upon further investigation it was learned that Lamoreaux did not possess a Connecticut pistol permit.
Based upon observations made at the scene of the collision and interactions with Lamoureux at his residence, Lamoreaux was taken into custody and transported to Troop L where he was processed and charged with the following:
C.G.S. 14-224(b)(3) Evading Responsibility w/ Property Damage
C.G.S. 14-230(a) Failure to Drive Right
C.G.S. 29-38 Illegal Possession of a Weapon in a Vehicle
C.G.S. 29-35(a) Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit
Lamoureux was later released on a $5000.00 cash/surety bond and is scheduled for arraignment on 12/22/2022, at New Britain Superior Court.
