Troopers Arrest Truck Driver Fugitive on Multiple Weapons Charges
On 12/05/2022, at approximately 2:00 PM, personnel from Troop E were requested to assist the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force with the apprehension of John Dahl, DOB 12/15/1956, of Abbotsford, Wisconsin. Dahl was known to be the subject of an active, extraditable felony warrant, held by the New York City Police Department, for the charge of Criminal Sale of a Firearm in the 1st Degree (NY 265.13). U.S. Marshals and NYPD Detectives advised Troop E that Dahl was known to be operating a tractor trailer on I-95 in East Lyme, Connecticut, and requested assistance in conducting a felony motor vehicle stop. The tractor trailer operated by Dahl was tracked to the area of I-395 northbound, in the area of Exit 2 in Waterford, where personnel from Troop E assisted in effectively conducting a motor vehicle stop and taking Dahl into custody without incident. During the course of the on-scene investigation, Troopers located a Taurus G2c Semi-Automatic pistol, two 12-Round 9mm magazines and approximately $70,000.00 in U.S. currency within the vehicle. Detectives from the CSP Bureau of Special Investigations responded to assist and process the large amount of U.S. currency as evidence. Dahl was transported to Troop E and charged with the following:
C.G.S. 54-170 Fugitive from Justice – Extradition Arrest No Warrant
The NYPD will begin the process of extraditing Dahl based upon the active warrant for his arrest held by their agency.
C.G.S. 29-35(a) - Carrying a Pistol Without a Permit,
C.G.S. 29-38 Illegal Possession of a Weapon in a Motor Vehicle
C.G.S. 53-202x Possession of High Capacity Magazines - two counts.
Dahl was processed without incident and held on a $4,000,000.00 cash/surety bond for the Fugitive from Justice charge and a $1,000,000.00 cash/surety bond for the charges related to the seizure of the firearm and high-capacity magazines.
Dahl was scheduled for arraignment at New London Superior Court on 12/06/2022.
