On 02/04/2024, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Troopers assigned to Troop I in Bethany were dispatched by to Route 8 southbound prior to Exit 20 in Seymour for a report of a collision involving a vehicle traveling the wrong way. EMS was also dispatched to the scene.
Investigating Troopers learned that a Lexus traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 8 had struck a Jeep which had been traveling southbound. Troopers identified the operator of the Lexus as, Heather Maton, DOB: 06/24/1968, of Bethel. Maton reported no injuries. The operator of the Jeep reported possible injuries but declined medical assistance at the scene. Maton agreed to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which were not performed to standard.
Based upon the information obtained during the on-scene investigation, Maton was taken into custody and transported to Troop I, where she was processed and charged with the following violations:
C.G.S. 14-227a, Operating Under the Influence
C.G.S. 14-237, Traveling the Wrong Way on a Divided Highway
C.G.S. 53a-64, Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree
Maton was later released on a $1,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled for arraignment at Derby Superior Court, on 02/16/2024.
