On Wednesday, 10/09/24 at approximately 4:37 PM, a Trooper assigned to Troop K- Colchester was conducting proactive speed enforcement on Route 85 in Hebron. It was at this time that the Trooper observed an older model light blue BMW coupe approaching their location on Route 85 southbound at a rate of speed which was clearly higher than the posted speed limit of 45 mph. Utilizing their assigned laser unit, the Trooper clocked the vehicle's speed at 98 mph.
The Trooper pulled out from their stationary location in efforts to stop the observed vehicle. Upon activating their emergency lights and siren to effect a traffic stop, the operator failed to comply and began to accelerate in efforts to elude police. In the interest of public safety, the Trooper terminated their efforts to stop the vehicle.
Given the vehicle's unique characteristics, further investigation determined a possible suspect on Slocum Rd. in Hebron. Troopers responded to this address, and the vehicle was subsequently observed on the property. Troopers attempted contact at the residence, and there was no initial response from within. One of the Troopers on scene attempted to contact the suspect by phone, to which he eventually came outside to speak with Troopers. The suspect was positively identified as Brendan Santo-Christo (DOB 09/01/98). It was determined that the vehicle Santo-Christo had been operating previously was unregistered and his license privilege was under suspension. Santo-Christo was subsequently arrested without incident and transported to Troop K. Santo-Christo was processed on the following charges:
CGS 14-12(a)*; Operating an Unregistered Motor Vehicle
CGS 14-215; Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License
CGS 14-222; Reckless Driving
CGS 14-223(b)**; Engaging Police in Pursuit
Santo-Christo was later released from custody on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Rockville Superior Court on 10/23/24. Please see the attached criminal information summary.
