Hartford Man Clocked at 125 MPH on I-91, Eludes Trooper, Surrenders at Troop H

On Thursday, 10/17/24, at approximately 12:09 PM, a Trooper assigned to Troop H- Hartford was conducting speed enforcement as part of the Fatal Accident Mitigation Initiative on I-91 northbound in the area of exit 29 in Hartford. The Trooper observed a black Acura TLX sedan traveling northbound at a rate of speed which was clearly higher than the posted speed limit, to which the speed was estimated to be in excess of 100 mph. The Trooper subsequently clocked the speed of the Acura by speedometer and observed speeds of 125 mph and above.

Based upon this observation, the Trooper activated their emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop on the Acura. The operator of the Acura failed to comply and continued to accelerate. The operator of the Acura was then observed making several unsafe lane changes, using the shoulder and gore areas to pass other traffic. Prior to terminating their efforts to stop this vehicle, the Trooper observed the operator abruptly exit I-91 northbound at exit 32b onto Market Street in Hartford. The Trooper further observed the operator fail to stop at a red traffic signal and stop sign thereafter before losing sight of the vehicle.

Based upon the information developed from the vehicle's registration, the investigating Trooper utilized open-source internet information and located a phone number for the suspected operator. The Trooper contacted the operator, who admitted to operating the vehicle and engaging police in a pursuit. The operator agreed to turn himself in at Troop H, where he was arrested at approximately 2:35 PM.

The operator was positively identified as Tamir Skyers (DOB 02/27/2005) of Hartford. Skyers was processed on the following charges:
