On November 24th, 2024, at approximately 4:50 PM, a Trooper out of Troop H - Hartford was conducting proactive traffic speed enforcement on I-91 northbound, in the area of Exit 24, in the Town of Rocky Hill.
A white Acura MDX was observed traveling at a high rate of speed, faster than the flow of traffic. The Trooper utilized his department issued laser obtained the vehicles speed to be 104 MPH in a posted 65 MPH area. The Trooper activated his emergency lights and sirens, and the operator failed to stop, accelerating to speeds greater than 125 MPH, while making unsafe lane changes, and driving in the shoulder.
Due to the safety of the public and after obtaining the registration of the vehicle, the Trooper disengaged. The owner of motor vehicle, identified as Richard V. Gonzalez (DOB: 01/08/1994) of Hartford, was uncooperative with State Police when contacted, and refused to meet with Troopers.
On January 26th, 2025, Gonzalez turned himself into State Police Troop H after learning of an active warrant for his arrest. Gonzalez was placed under arrest and charged with the following:
