Florida Man Faces Assault, Reckless Endangerment Charges Following Crash Investigation on I-95 in Greenwich

On 5/12/2024, at approximately 4:31 p.m., Troopers assigned to Troop G responded to a report of a one-vehicle collision on I-95 Southbound in the area of Exit 5 in Greenwich, involving a box truck. Greenwich Police also responded to assist.

Upon arriving at the scene, investigators learned that the collision occurred during a physical altercation between the vehicle’s operator and two adult passengers. The vehicle operator was identified as Vilhomme Mondesir, DOB: 01/06/1978, of Lake Worth, Florida.

The two passengers in the vehicle explained that they were all coworkers. The two passengers further explained that an argument began when Mondesir stopped at a shopping plaza after driving for several hours. According to the passengers, Mondesir left the vehicle briefly to purchase food and quickly returned to the vehicle, planning to leave immediately and continue driving. The passengers further explained that when they asked Mondesir for some additional time for them to take a break, Mondesir allegedly began yelling that they did not need breaks and immediately began driving, entering I-95 southbound.

As Mondesir was driving, the passengers explained that they told Mondesir that denying them breaks could cause Mondesir to lose his job. Mondesir allegedly continued yelling, struck one of the passengers in the face and an altercation began inside of the vehicle, as the second passenger attempted to intervene. While the altercation was occurring, the vehicle began to swerve from the right lane into the right shoulder before striking a metal beam guardrail and traveling down an embankment. Troopers observed that the passenger allegedly struck by Mondesir had visible injuries to his face. The second passenger and Mondesir reported minor injuries.

Based upon the information obtained and observations made during the investigation, Mondesir was taken into State Police custody and transported to Troop G where he was processed and charged with the following violations:

C.G.S. 53a-61 Assault in the Third Degree

C.G.S. 53a-64 Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree (2 counts)

C.G.S. 14-236, Failure to Maintain Lane

Additionally, Troopers obtained dash camera footage depicting the interior of the vehicle, which further corroborated allegations that Mondesir had struck the face of the passenger seated beside him and failed to safely operate the vehicle within its established lane, resulting in a collision. The dash camera footage was subsequently processed as evidence in this investigation.

Mondesir was held on a $5,000 cash/surety bond and transferred to the custody of the CT Department of Correction pending his scheduled arraignment at Stamford Superior Court, on 05/13/2024.
