On 09/02/2024, at approximately 12:37 a.m., an on-duty Trooper assigned to Troop E in Montville was traveling in the right lane on I-95 northbound in the area of Exit 73 in the town of East Lyme. The Trooper observed a black Mercedes-Benz SUV displaying a Connecticut registration traveling in the left lane pass their assigned cruiser at a high rate of speed. The Trooper then merged their cruiser into the left lane, behind the Mercedes-Benz, and clocked the Mercedes-Benz at a speed of approximately 105 miles-per-hour in a posted 65 MPH zone. At this time, the Mercedes-Benz as entered into a highway construction zone, with a posted 50 MPH speed limit and multiple speed indicator signs in the area to aid drivers in monitoring their speed. In this area, the Trooper observed the Mercedes-Benz traveling at approximately 115 MPH. Due to both shoulders being closed in the construction zone, with no safe area for the accused vehicle to come to a stop, the Trooper temporarily delayed initiating the motor vehicle stop until both vehicles approached a safer location.
Immediately prior to the Trooper initiating a motor vehicle stop using their cruiser’s lights and sirens, the Mercedes-Benz was observed traveling at approximately 117 MPH. Upon being signaled to pull over, the accused vehicle slowed and came to a stop in the right shoulder of the Exit 75 off ramp.
The operator of the Mercedes-Benz was positively identified as Joseph Jankovich, DOB 04/04/1978. of Old Lyme. Based upon the Troopers observations and information obtained during the on-scene investigation, Jankovich was taken into custody and transported to Troop E in Montville, where he was processed and charged with the following violation:

Jankovich was later released on a $1500 non-surety bond and is scheduled for arraignment at New London Superior Court, on 09/16/2024.
