Detectives Arrest Man for Damage to Railroad Property in Waterbury
On May 23, 2022, Detectives from the Western District Major Crime Squad (WDMC) were assigned to investigate recurring damage to CT Department of Transportation (CT DOT) owned railroad tracks in Waterbury. An unknown individual(s) was reported to have deliberately tampered with the tracks in numerous locations. Railroad personnel advised detectives that the resulting damage could potentially derail a train from its tracks. Investigators began conducting physical surveillance operations to monitor activity in the area. On June 3, 2022, at approximately 8:00 AM, detectives observed a male tampering with the railroad tracks adjacent to Thomaston Avenue in Waterbury and took him into custody. The male was identified as Jose Aquino, DOB 11/11/1958, of Waterbury. Aquino was transported to Troop A in Southbury, where he was charged with the following:
CGS 53a-117k Damage to Railroad Property 1st Degree
CGS 53a-117 Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree
CGS 53a-64 Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree
Aquino posted a $50,000.00 surety bond and is scheduled to appear at Waterbury Superior Court on June 21, 2022.
