Bridgeport Man Arrested for Attempted Identity Theft at Oxford Bank

On Friday, November 22, 2024, at approximately 3:40 PM, Oxford Police responded to an Oxford bank following a report of an individual attempting to use false identification to gain access to account information.

Upon arriving at the bank, officers observed an adult male seated at the customer service desk, with no other customers present. One Officer spoke with the individual while the other spoke with the bank employee. The employee explained that the male had presented a Connecticut driver’s license in an attempt to obtain bank statements. However, upon reviewing the account, the employee noticed a scanned copy of the account holder’s driver’s license that clearly did not match the person in front of them. Suspicious of the discrepancy, the employee contacted the police to report the incident.

While speaking with the individual, the officer noticed the driver's license placed on the desk and used their in-car computer to perform a DMV data inquiry using the license information. A DMV inquiry revealed that the name, date of birth, and address matched the information shown in the system, however, the DMV photo did not match the suspect.

Based on this information, the suspect was arrested and subsequently transported to Troop A for processing. During processing, the suspect provided the Officer with his true name and date of birth. He was positively identified as Oronde S. Homan (DOB: 07/20/1982), of Bridgeport. After being apprised of his constitutional rights, the Oxford Officer questioned Homan about the incident. Homan admitted that his friend had given him a fake license and asked him to use it to attempt to obtain bank statements. Homan was ultimately charged with the following violations:

C.G.S. 53a-129d - Identity Theft 3rd Degree

C.G.S. 53a-130 - Criminal Impersonation

C.G.S. 53a-139 - Forgery 2nd Degree

Following arrest processing, Homan was released on a $15,000 bond and is scheduled for arraignment at Derby Superior Court on 12/05/2024.

The victim of identity theft was notified of this incident.
